Adult Swimmer

CLASS SIZE: Max 4

New to the water, can’t float or swim.

Swimmers will learn a correct body position, breathing for efficient swimming and focus on comfort level and skills to increase water safety.

Successful completion requires:

  • Put face in water and blow bubbles
  • Fully submerge head
  • Straight leg flutter kick on back
  • Independent front float (hold for 10 sec)
  • Independent back float (hold for 10 sec)
  • Foundations of treading water
  • Jumping into deep water and fully submerging
  • Kicking 25 yds with kickboard or barbell with side breathing

CLASS SIZE: Max 4

Can float on back independently and float independently on stomach with face in the water. Can flutter kick with barbell or kickboard as well as enter deep end of pool. Understand how to tread water.

Swimmers will be introduced to freestyle, the fundamental stroke in swimming. They will also be introduced to backstroke, breaststroke kick, dolphin kick, open turns, and kneeling dives.

Successful completion requires:

  • 25 yds. freestyle with proper body position, kicking and side breathing
  • 25 yds. backstroke with proper body position and kicking
  • Foundation of Breaststroke Kick with Propulsion
  • Dolphin kick with proper breathing
  • Freestyle and backstroke open turns
  • Kneeling dive into pool
  • 1 minute treading water

CLASS SIZE: Max 6

Can swim 25 yards freestyle with rotary breathing pattern and swim 25 yards backstroke. Can do both freestyle and backstroke open turns. Can do 25 yards of breaststroke kick. Can do dolphin kick with proper breathing.

Swimmers will build on freestyle and backstroke skills. Swimmers will increase endurance; will learn breaststroke, freestyle flip turns, backstroke flip turns, foundations of butterfly, and standing dives into the water.

Successful completion requires:

  • 50 yds. freestyle with proper body position, rotary breathing and six-beat kick
  • 50yds. backstroke with proper body position and kick
  • 25 yds. breaststroke
  • Freestyle and backstroke flip turns
  • Foundation of butterfly
  • 2-minute treading water
  • Standing dive into pool

Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle with rotary breathing and 25 yards backstroke.

Swimmers will focus on increasing their endurance and technique for longer distance swimming. Each class will involve drills to improve technique and efficiency in the water as well as focus sets to increase endurance and speed.

Focus will be on:

  • Improving speed and technique in swimming.
  • Gaining strength and flexibility.
  • Learning and using drills to improve efficiency.
  • Increasing endurance capacity.

This twice a week course is specifically designed for triathletes. You will work on endurance, along with breathing and recovery techniques that can be incorporated into open water. You will train in all aspects of triathlon swimming, right down to preparing for “beach runs” at the end of swims, with an emphasis on drills and techniques needed for open water racing.

Monday, Wednesday or Friday | 12pm-1pm | @ Simmons

Join CRA at Simmons College for a lunchtime swim on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday. This is geared toward adults who know how to swim and are looking to use swimming as a form of recreation/workout. Lunchtime swim is one hour – there will be a coach on deck to provide you with helpful tips, answer any questions, and provide you with an individualized workout if you please.
