Charles River Aquatics American Red Cross Lifeguard Training & Certification Course
Successful completion of this course does not guarantee employment as a lifeguard. It provides the credentials required to seek employment as a lifeguard.
This CRA Lifeguard Training Course uses a blended model requiring completion of an online segment BEFORE attending the in-person portion of the course. It includes both evaluation of hands-on skills as well as a written test.
The following prerequisites MUST be met to participate in this course.
Age: Students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course.
These skills will be tested on the first day of the in-person portion of the course:
1) 300-yard swim–Freestyle or Breaststroke
2) Tread water for 2 minutes–legs only
3) Retrieve a 10 lb. weight from the bottom in 7 feet of water, bring the weight to the surface, swim 20 yards carrying the weight (using legs only) and exit the pool with the weight without using a ladder. Total time allotted for this task is 100 seconds.
Once registered, the Red Cross will send the participant the online module. This portion of the course takes approximately 7 hours and MUST be completed before attending the in-person portion of the class.
The in-person segment is an additional 20 hours.
