WHAT to BRING:

Clinic participants must arrive dressed in a bathing suit, ready to swim.  Wear closed-toe shoes.  No flip-flops permitted.

Pack a Bag that includes:

  • goggles (Important!  CRA does not permit the sharing of goggles)
  • towel
  • full, labeled, plastic water bottle

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • 1 hour of instructional swim in the Teaching Pool (23.5 x 44 feet, depth of 4 feet)
  • 15 minutes of free swim time
  • Instructional groups of 5
  • Participants grouped by skill level

INSTRUCTIONAL SWIM CLINICS

3 HOUR INSTRUCTIONAL SWIM CLINICS 

Distinctive in approach, instruction at Charles River Aquatics emphasizes proper technique as a solid foundation for the development of strong, safe, efficient swimmers.   

CRA Instruction is based on the development of technical accuracy of a swimmer's movements.  Skills are systematically layered as each isolated movement is committed to muscle memory.  Advancement through the cumulative levels of instruction is tied to achievement of technical milestones.

In the CRA Instructional Program, students do not swim great distances during lessons to increase endurance.  The focus on technique creates efficient, safe and fast swimmers.  

CRA Instructional Clinics offer intensive individualized instruction and lots of fun!

CRA Instructional Clinics are Designed for:

  • Youth swimmers ages 4+
  • Any skill level--new students will be evaluated at the start of the program

  • lunch if staying for morning AND afternoon clinics on the same day, with an ice pack, a refrigerator is not available
  • Epi Pens and/or Inhalers (*if indicated on registration materials as necessary, these MUST accompany participant per the Wellesley Board of Health)

  • 1.5 hours of instructional swim in the Teaching Pool (23.5 x 44 feet, depth of 4 feet)

  • Instructional groups of 5 (maximum of two groups of 5 sharing the pool at any one time)

STROKE, STARTS & TURNS CLINICS

Technical Improvement Series

Attend the CRA Stoke Clinic Technical Improvement Series to refine technique in each of the four competitive strokes.  

The current Technical Improvement Clinic session runs for 6 weeks.  The first 4 weeks each attend to one stroke--freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and  butterfly--the final 2, starts and turns.  Instruction is focused on the nuances of each stroke, starts and turns, with specific drills, and individual feedback for improvement.  The goal--increased efficiency and speed through improved technique. 

PREREQUISITES:

  • Ages 8 – 17
  • If currently/previously enrolled in CRA programming, participant must meet one of the following criteria:

Has achieved Level 3 or higher in Instructional Swim

Participates in Technique & Training Tune-Up (T3U)

Is on the CRA Dragons Youth Swim Team, Explorer or higher

Participates in the CRA Recreational Swim Team

  • If new to CRA:

Proficient in all four competitive strokes and seeking to improve technique

Starting Dives & Turns Clinics

Starting Dives Clinics offer individualized instruction from sitting/kneeling dives, to racing starts.  Students work with an instructor diving off of the bulkhead.  Note--this is NOT springboard diving and the starting blocks with NOT be used.  All diving is from the bulkhead or deck of the pool.  

Turns Clinics are designed to introduce or to refine turns for each competitive stroke--flip turns, open turns and IM transitions.  

Starting Dives & Turns Clinics are separate programs but offered back to back.  Sign up for both!

  • Independent Swimmers
  • Ages 6-17
