Boston Sports Institute
The Boston Sports Institute is a multi-use recreation center featuring two NHL regulation ice surfaces (one fully sled hockey compatible), a 1,500 SF indoor synthetic turf field/gymnasium, a 35,000 SF natatorium housing two pools, sports rehabilitation, a 6,700 SF Strength & Conditioning Center, a 450 LF elevated walking track, a pro shop and concessions.
The Boston Sports Institute Natatorium
The natatorium at the Boston Sports Institute (BSI) houses two pools. The large 13 lane competition pool (the 2012 Olympic Trials Pool) measures 107 x 75 feet with a depth of 4-12.5 feet. It has an adjustable bulkhead- allowing for 10 lanes of 25 yards each with 3 perpendicular 25 yard lanes, or 10 lanes of 25 meters each- two 1m diving boards, 10 starting blocks, and is kept at a temperature of about 80 degrees. The mezzanine level of the natatorium has spectator seating for approximately 300 overlooking the competition pool. The small 4 lane teaching pool measures 25 x 44 feet with a depth of 4 feet and a temperature of 86 degrees.
Both pools are ADA compliant. The two pools are separated by a wall to allow for appropriate air temperatures above each.
Three changing rooms are available for patrons of the pools – Men’s, Women’s and Family (gender non-specific). For safety, changing rooms are kept locked at all times, prohibiting access from the hallway outside of the natatorium, with entrance only from the wet corridor and pool deck.
Charles River Aquatics fully programs and manages the pools at the BSI offering extensive instructional swim and competitive team opportunities for youth and adults, along with summer and school vacation camps and clinics, lap swim, and many special events.

The 2012 Olympic Trials Pool
The 2012 Olympic Trials Pool, designed by Myrtha/A&T, was used in Omaha, Nebraska in late June 2012. Following the event, Charles River Aquatics purchased the pool, with the intention of installing it in a state-of-the-art aquatics facility in the Boston area. In the early planning stages of the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, MA, CRA sold the pool to the ESG Associates for installation in the new facility.
